How blogs can use Feedpass to offer easy RSS subscription and social bookmarking options

3 11 2007

FEEDPASS is a way for you to make RSS easy for anyone. If you’ve got a blog or feed, then you need a feedpass. We automatically create a subscription page that allows your readers to subscribe using RSS readers, browsers, or by email. We also explain RSS technology and make it simple for novices or experts to get your feed.

Just enter your feed URL and we’ll generate buttons [...] along with tutorials on RSS and more to guide your users through the subscription process.

Feedpass offers not only RSS subscriptions, but also the option to bookmark the recent five posts using multiple social bookmarking sites ( del.icio.us, digg, spurl, wists, simpy, newsvine, blinklist, furl, blogmarks, yahoo, smarking, ma.gnolia, segnalo, reddit, fark and technorati).

And yes! It can be used by wordpress.com bloggers, too!

Below is the Netty Gritty page at Feedpass.

Netty Gritty page at Feedpass

Step-by-step instructions
1. Enter the url of your blog feed
2. Name your Feedpass (you can leave it blank and let feedpass create a name)
3. Choose a design (you can preview it first)

And your feedpass is created! :D You are given the url of your feedpass page and you can even take a peek at it using Preview.

All you have to do is link a text or image to this url in your blog’s side bar and voila! You have made the life of your reader a lot easier! Well, at least as long as it has to do with keeping in touch with your blog!

All this is free and you don’t even have to register. However, if you register, you get a button (nothing special, though) linked to your feedpass.

So, what do you think? Like it? I found a rather controversial review of Feedpass at techcrunch. Might be worth a read, especially the comments. Don’t forget to tell me about your take on this! As for me, I’d say, yeah, I am sticking to Feedpass! And that means the new orange button under this post is gonna be around this blog from now on! By the way, it is possible to use Feedpass in conjunction with Feedburner. You just have to enter in Feedpass the feed url of your blog as generated by Feedburner! This is exactly what I have done under the blog post!

I’m ambivalent. However, I want to thank you your going to Feedpass and summarizing their information here so that others who may not feel the same way I do know about it.

Keep on blogging :)

Thanks for the excellent review of the Feedpass service. Yes, we did get a fairly controversial review from TechCrunch back in 2006, but that was mainly due to concerns about wrapping advertising around the content and some debate around full feeds vs. excerpts only. Frankly, most of the controversy was unwarranted as we’ve always been an excerpt-only service, always linking readers back to the actual blog/feed for the full story. We’ve stripped off the advertising/revenue share portion for now but continue to offer the service for free. The service is being used by thousands of blogs and the feedback has been very positive. As always, we welcome user feedback, tips, advice, and guidance to help make the service more useful for everyone.
