How to automatically display recent posts of a specific tag in your wordpress side bar

Sometimes we need to give special exposure to posts posted in a specific tag. One way of doing it is by allotting the side bar area. The side bar area is visible at all times (unless you have changed your theme settings) and we are gonna take advantage of the visibility.

Choose a tag that covers the posts you want to give special exposure to. Now access the tag by using the tag cloud widget and copy the tag page url.

For example my chosen tag is “Free web” and the tag url is:

http://shongjog.wordpress.com/tag/free-web/

Now go to your widget page and activate an RSS widget and paste the url in the appropriate field.

Make the necessary changes and save!

Here is how my recent posts in the tag “Free web” look like in the side bar after doing the job.

Note: Also works for categories.

Pretty neat, eh? :D

  1. You are brilliant, I LOVE this! I have been trying to figure out a way to get some kind of menu to highlight particular topics, and you solved it! I’m using the individual feed addresses and will make a widget with them.

    THANK YOU!!!
