How to have Flash embeds in a wordpress.com blog

It is possible to have Flash embeds in a wordpress.com blog very easily although wordpress.com Support says otherwise.

Flash and Other Embeds

Flash and all other embeds are not allowed in WordPress.com posts, pages, or text widgets. For security reasons, we remove the tags needed for these to work. Your intentions may be innocent, but someone somewhere would try to damage the site, affecting all of our users.

There are several safe ways to post Videos, Audio, and other items to your WordPress.com blog.

Actually, it is possible to have Flash embeds in a wordpress.com blog in not one, but TWO methods! :D

Embed Flash in a wordpress.com blog: method 1

I first learned how to embed Flash in a wordpress.com blog from Panos. Read his posts under the category gigya and you will learn how to add Flash embeds in a wordpress.com blog!

And here is a video by ThePanicButtonBlog that explains that method .

Embed Flash in a wordpress.com blog: method 2

You can embed Flash stuff in your blog very easily using Vodpod.

GeekyCoder has explained how to Embed ‘ANY’ Flash widget in WordPress.com using the incredible Vodpod.

Basically, you have to install the Vodpod Firefox extension for wordpress, which turns any Flash code into a wp.cpm-friendly shortcode.

Now, “everybody” knows that Vodpod can embed any video even in wordpress.com so long as it gives you a Flash embed code. But “nobody” knows that Vodpod is equally capable of converting other Flash embeds into a wp.com-friendly shortcode.

Here is the same video, but the embed here is a Vodpod.

Now that you know how to have Flash embeds, go ahead and have fun!
Nothing’s gonna stop us now! :D
(Well, we still don’t know how to post iframe codes and javascript codes – but let’s not fret about it now!)

  2. Hey dudes…anyone can help me? I try to embed a video player from embedr.com..I follow your method, it works perfectly but the player is to high to fit my post, and the bottom part which allows users to navigate inside my playlist is hidden.
If I right-click on the posted playlist amd select “Show All” my playlist reduces in size and fits the post…
    Help! :)

  3. nadirsimon,
Thanks for coming over! You are a jazz musician, oh wow!

I am not sure why you are having this problem. Try to make the embed smaller in size by changing the height and width attribute. If you need help modifying the code just paste it here and I will do it.

  4. Brilliant! I have been agonising how to do it and your links were so helpful. I especially wanted a full screen size and was really struggling. I used Vodpod but I couldn’t get it full size – but your link to Panos came up trumps – might have been there for years before I got it right – many many thanks

  5. I’m still having trouble putting an interactive Shelfari onto my wordpress blog…I have read all the information on this post but still cannot find the right code and modify it correct so that it works….help please =/

  6. Hey there ^-^ i just started and was wondering how you added the facebook like (with the number of likes) at the end of each of your posts? So far I’ve been doing the firefox bookmark method at the moment, but would like the number on there like yours if possible. Thanks for any help

  7. ps: it’s ok, I’m silly I found the sharing link via the edit page xP great blog by the way, it’s helped me with adding another like button on one of my widgets. Although, do you know a way of adding realtime text of the amount of people that like it? As it seems I have to manually edit this everytime somebody likes my blog through the widget >.< thanks!

    • No sorry, no real time text update of the Facebook like for your blog in the sidebar is possible. The code needed to show that in the sidebar is not allowed in wordpress.com!

  8. Istill can’t seem to be able to get Shelfari bookshelf widget on the worpress.com. I done exactly what I saw on the video but when I previewed it on a new tab an error message came up, it said ‘The Shelfari blog plugin requires that you provide a User Name. Please check the code snippet you are using, and ensure “user=yourUserName” is specified’. Can you help please.
