How to blend multiple feeds and create a single feed online

Ever wanted to blend multiple feeds and create a single feed?

I love this Chimp!

This chimp likes to eat multiple blog feeds and create a single new feed out of them.

All you have to do is add multiple feeds and hit the “Chomp Chomp” button! :D

Then give your Mix a Name and they will give you a url where the new feed can be found. Distribute that link if you want others to get hold of it, just in case someone wants to subscribe to it.

And here is an example Chimpfeedr:
Creative wordpress

I created it by blending feeds for three wordpress.com global tags – art, music, photography.
Something tells me I should subscribe to that feed and use it as an aid to enhance my creativity!

How to enable Youtube autoplay in a wordpress.com blog

It is possible to enable the autoplay option for Youtube videos in a wordpress.com blog. I used the Gigya method for this workaround.

Code for Youtube autoplay in a wordpress.com blog

[gigya src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/VIDEO-ID-NUMBER” flashvars=”autoplay=1″ type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” width=”425″ height=”350″]

Just change the bit VIDEO-ID-NUMBER in the above code with the actual ID number of your Youtube video.

The detailed instructions on how to enable autoplay are available here

How to add a Google Custom Search engine to a wordpress.com blog

Visit Google and Create your own Custom Search Engine.

Instructions

1. Creating your Google Custom Search Engine

In this phase, you have to describe your future search engine and define it. Make sure you add just the url of your site in the “Sites to search” field. Select the free edition, agree to the “Terms and conditions” and click “Next”.

Choose how your search engine will look.

Then they give you a big code that you have to paste in your blog.

:!: But wait!

That code is no good for a wordpress.com blog – it will be stripped off immediately by wordpress. So leave this page here.

Go to manage your existing search engines and click the name of the search engine you have just created.

A new page will open up that has your newly created Google Custom Search engine. Leave this page open for a while.

Adding the Google Custom Search Engine to your wordpress.com blog

The only way we can have a GCE is by linking to it. At best, we can try to make it look genuine.

Just copy the below and paste it in a text widget.

Go to the page that has your Google Custom Search Engine and copy the url from the address bar of your browser.

Now go back to the code in the text widget and find the bit PASTE-URL-HERE. Select it completely and replace it with the url you have copied.

Save changes and view your blog.

You should now see a Google Custom Search Engine just like the one in the side bar of this blog!

How to add a Follow me on Twitter – Flash button in a wordpress.com blog

If you want your blog readers to follow you on Twitter, why not try a Flashy way to do it?

Twitterflash enables you to generate a Flash button that is linked to your Twitter account.

Basically, you have to give them your Twitter username and then… well, there’s nothing much more left to do. They give you an embed code which you can put in your wordpress.com blog.

Here are some of my favourites…

Did I mention that you can change the size of your button?

See these examples:

Where can you put a Twitter Flash button?
A Twitter Flash button will work in blog posts, pages and side bars.

Bonus tip
Click any Twitter button in this post to follow me on Twitter. I find quite good stuff quite often and when I find something cool online I share it on Twitter. And I find much, much more than I can ever possibly blog about!

Collect this post in your RSS Reader

How to enable your readers to collect a single blog post in their RSS reader

If you are a blogger, you probably have a “Subscribe to this blog” kind of link somewhere in your blog. Nowadays, I see no blog that doesn’t have this important tool. However, let’s cease to be conceited and let’s do remember that there are readers who don’t really require a regular dose of an updated version of your blog. Maybe a random Googler found a post in your blog from way back in your blogging history. How can he collect that post in his RSS reader, since the RSS reader shows only a certain number of latest items?

This post will show you how you can easily add a “Collect this post in your RSS reader” link that you can put under each blog post.

Note: This solution is especially for wordpress.com blogs.

Instructions

- Visit Fivefilters.

Grab the bookmarklet.

Now, after publishing a post, view it in a new tab.
Make sure you see the blog post url in the address bar of your browser, and not the blog url.

Launch the bookmarklet.

A new page will load that shows the RSS options for that blog post.

Copy the url from the address bar.

Go back to the admin area of your post and write Collect this post in your RSS reader under your post and link it to the url you copied.

Update the post and view it again.

Feedburner Animator chicklet

If you haven’t already burned your blog at Feedburner, do so.

Then go to the Publicize tab and create a Headline Animator. Save your Headline Animator and paste it in your email in a way that is allowed in your email service. I use gmail and I have added the Headline Animator to my signature. So every time I send an email to someone, the recipient sees the stylish headlines from my latest posts from my blog!

Do try it and let me know what you think!
